Reality Check
It's common to give preference to the cute little babies when thinking of adopting. This video is a perspective that is rarely expressed and barely understood by the average person:

If only this would last!
Just wanted to share a quick thing this morning before I drag my tired carcass out of bed. This worst insult at our house:
"You're in loooove!"
As if nothing could be as bad as that!
I just heard the little guy not getting his way. He shouted to the big brother, "Oh yeah? Well you're in love!!"

A Family Ride
Well we went on not a short ride today. This morning we headed to Caledonia, MI for the memorial service of Cpl. Brock Bucklin. He died of non-combat related causes in Iraq. We went as part of the Patriot Guard Riders ("Riding with Respect").
We heard prior to lining up that some Westboro Prayer-needy might show up so we were watching and waiting. That we know of, no one protested. That was a relief though I did tell the kids that if they showed up and started making a stink, we would not acknowledge their existence except to pray for them silently. People like that are brainwashed and need God's grace and mercy in their lives.
We got to meet a few new people and see not a few bikes.
Incidentally, this was sorta like "internet axe murderer" paranoia times 1,000 - or however many internet people happen to show up! I did get to meet a couple of people whose usernames I recognized. I wish I had circulated a little more.
You know how the Westboro Blinded carry those hateful signs and teach their children to do the same? Well, it turns out we had some sign carrying children and parents of our own! I don't know if they're part of the Patriot Guard or not but it was great to see them. Their unannoying shade of yellow signs with black writing said, "God Loves America", "John 3:16", "Thank You!" and "We Support Our Troops".
If I have the opportunity to participate in something like that again, I will. It's a horrible thing to need a barrier between you and people who hate your dead loved one for no reason but it is a real eye-opener to see so many people of different backgrounds pulling together in support of people they don't even know. I was happy to see that quite a few Christians turned up, including several other homeschooling families (the "sign" people), one of whom is related to a MI soldier whose funeral was protested loudly by the Westboro Hate-filleds but attended more loudly by the PGR. The articles surrounding that episode are what got me and my family interested in the PGR in the first place.
The hardest part of the whole day was seeing the hearse going by with Bucklin's twin brother and another person riding along, Bucklin's flag draped casket in view. I'll admit it. I cried. I couldn't help it. I shed a few tears every time someone drove into the driveway crying. I shed a lot of tears when I saw the brother and the other person in the car with that casket. What an awful time for that poor family!
We just never know how much time we have. We have no guarantees in this life except that we will eventually die and stand before the God of all Creation. I am ready for that day. Are you?
